The Ransom Notes is a student-run co-ed a cappella group from the University of Chicago. We have been a group on campus since 1997, when we were originally called Harmony 8. The name changed to Harmony X when the group grew larger than 8 members, and then it changed to the Ransom Notes because everyone realized Harmony anything is a bad name for an a cappella group.
We love to sing all the time around campus and the city, and in spring 2015 took our first-ever international tour to Canada and the East Coast! We perform annually at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA)—we took home third place at the 2016 quarterfinal! In the 2016-2017 year, we competed in ICCAs, had a blast road tripping through the South on our spring tour, celebrated our twentieth anniversary with a big concert, and released our sixth studio album, Blueprint!
A lot has changed since 1997 (most of our current members weren’t even alive back then). We’ve grown from 8 to 18 members, have taken on a signature blue + suspenders + heels look, and of course, we have a new name. Still, at the end of the day we’re a bunch of UChicago kids who love singing almost as much as we love spending time together and inflating each other’s Snapchat scores.
